New Favorite Drink - Mudslide Martinis!

I went out to dinner with my dahling friend Amy, tonight. So much fun - we got drinks and appetizers and dessert. It was her first post-baby outing without baby & not running errands, it was my first mudslide martini. Good times were had by all!

I got to see Baby Evie (and Amy)- for the first time since the birth. She's so big (and quite gassy!) but she's very adorable (Evie, not Amy, although Amy's cute too!).

Salty-Sweet Watermelon Delight!
I made this for lunch today - so good! The saltiness of the feta contrasted nicely with the juiciness of the melon. The best part about it? I completely bungled the measurements when I scaled it down to one and it still turned out great.

Watermelon salad with feta and basil Serves 4
  • 3 1/2 pounds seedless watermelon (rind removed) cut into 1-inch cubes (6 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, cut into thin strips
  • coarse salt and ground pepper
  • 4 ounces feta cheese, broken into large pieces (about 1 cup)

In a large bowl, combine watermelon, lime juice, and half the basil; season with salt and pepper. Toss to combine. Divide among 4 plates, scatter cheese and remaining basil on top.

Why Boys Are Stupid
They just are.

The sad thing is, I was pondering why I wasn't the breaker-upper (if you're confused, look at yesterday's posting). I think a good part of it was I genuinely liked the guy. He was interesting and fun and I enjoyed spending time with him, so I kept waffling about what to do. Since it turned out he didn't like me so much, I should have stuck with my doubts.

My friend Tina put it best: "Would you really want to be with someone who breaks up with people over the phone?" Good point. That's what bugs me the most. I know it's hard to do - and it's supposed to be hard. It just sucks that he didn't think highly enough of me to tell me face-to-face.

My next move will be the opposite of what I normally go for. (As George Costanza put it, if all my instincts are wrong, the opposite must be right.) I'm thinking a tattoed Republican or maybe someone who hates to read or, better yet, someone who actually liked the TV show Becker. Ooh ... or a tattoed Republican who hates to read and loves the TV show Becker. My dream man!

L - I'm so sorry about the breakup. But I kind of am not sorry. You need someone a lot more FUN - who appreciates all your uniqueness & silliness. I don't think he really "got" you or appreciated who you are. And the thing is - you're not in a relationship to please or entertain someone else - you just need to be yourself. And if that wasn't enough for Ed, then the breakup is for the best. You're fabulous & don't you forget it!

Thank you Jen! I need you to follow me around and say nice things to me whenever I feel about as much fun as tarnished silver.(Although to be fair, he WAS fun).

But, if you know any tattooed Republicans, send them my way!

Hey Laurie - found my way here from your comment on Evie's blog and read through the archive. You're a damn entertaining blogger! (seriously!)

Thanks for taking Amy out on the town - I know she'd really been looking forward to a fun girls' night out, and she had a good time.
