I Feel Fat

My friend John and I have a contract. I will lose 10 lbs in 10 weeks or pay him $150. He will lose 13 lbs in 10 weeks or pay me $150.

The whole dealio is based on a Wall Street Journal article where a man contracted with a friend to pay her $500 if he didn't lose weight in a specified amount of time. It was extra incentive - every time he went to eat a french fry, he asked himself if it was worth $500.

We started the contract a week ago, and already I'm in deep crap. I weighed in yesterday and gained 2.7 lbs. I have no idea how this happened - I was actually pretty good last week. I'm thinking the soy sauce I had on Friday night with my sushi and the heavy outdoor workout clothes I was wearing at weigh-in might have added a little poundage. But nevertheless, I now have to lose 13 lbs in 9 weeks and I'm freaking out a bit.

How I'm Going to Fix It

I have a plan, however. I'm switching to the Weight Watchers Core Plan. This means cutting the crap out of my diet - no processed foods, no junky snacks, no sweets - just lean meat & dairy, fruits, veggies and whole grains.

Last night, I roasted some fingerling potatoes with rosemary and chicken broth. I mixed Dijon mustard, dill and fat-free yogurt in a bowl and coated some chicken with it.

I was whining to my mom yesterday about the bet and the gain. She said, "Why'd you bet John $150? I would love to take your $150." Nice to know I have some believers out there!

Training for the Half Marathon

Yesterday, I was supposed to start training for a half marathon with a group of Weight Watchers members. I went to the park to meet up with the team of people who were training. The woman in charge asked me if I'd been doing my walking. I said, "Oh - I've been running. I should be OK." She looked at me, startled, and said "This is a walking-only club." I felt like a giant arse. I just assumed it was running because I couldn't imagine anyone walking a half marathon. I guess we all know what happens when we assume...

Instead of running, I had to walk - and had to walk with a really slow older lady. She was super nice - but I wanted to go faster and I couldn't! Later the in-charge lady told me I could run, but I'd be on my own training wise. Not sure if I should just train on my own period - or still meet with the group every Saturday.

You were complaining about losing $150.00 and gaining weight. I know you can reach this goal. I see how far you have come and I am a BELIEVER.
