Well today, I managed to hit every traffic light, plus traffic was bad. It was 5:50 and I was about 2 minutes away from the doctor's office.
My phone rings. The receptionist says, "You were scheduled for an appointment at 5:45 p.m. We were wondering if you were still coming in."
Startled, I say, "I'm only 5 minutes late - I got stuck in some traffic. I'll be there in a couple of minutes."
She says, "You're fine. It's not a problem. We were just wondering."
OK, so I realize I should be on time, but I don't get why she called when I was only five minutes late. Usually, I give people 10 to 15 minutes before I'm concerned that they're not going to show up. I always figure their clock was off or they ran into traffic or something.
I finally arrived at the office two minutes after I hung up with the receptionist. The doctor was, of course, with other patients, so it's not like she was sitting around waiting for me. Plus, three people came in after me so they weren't getting ready to close.
The receptionist started yapping at me about how she wasn't really calling to see if I was coming in. She was just checking to see if she had the right phone number for me. Um - since you call me on my phone to remind me to come to my appointments AND you call me on my phone to schedule my appointments, methinks you have the right number.
The doctor has me on a maintenance schedule to keep everything properly aligned - I usually only need a minor adjustment that literally takes five minutes, if that. So even if I am late, it's not going to throw off the schedule any.
I really like the doctor and she's really helped me feel much better, however, if I'm going to start getting phone calls every time I'm 5 minutes late, I'm going to get annoyed. 'Cause let's face it, traffic or no traffic, I'm usually 5 minutes late to pretty much everything!
The whole situation made me feel horrifically grouchy. Actually, I'm feeling grouchy in general for some reason. I've been Ms. Crabbypants all day.
