At Least There Was Ice Cream

All I can say is poor Stephanie. I dragged her through a debacle of an evening last night. We were going to do dinner and a movie.

I got out of work late PLUS I had to buy cat food, change my clothes and feed the cats. Getting to a 7:40 p.m. movie was already a little sketchy. Of course, we didn't have time for fun dinner choices, so we ate at Dairy Queen. Sad, I know. Although while we were there, we saw some woman with shorts were so short, her underwear was hanging out the bottom. Blech!

Then we went to see Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay at the dollar movies. (Excuse me, the TWO dollar movies.) In all fairness, I thought Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle was hilarious. I didn't think this movie was funny at all. Granted, we left after 20 minutes, so it could have easily become the funniest movie on earth, although I'm doubting it. There were just some really gross scenes. I didn't really care for prisoners giving the guards blow jobs (particularly the sound effects) and I wasn't a fan of the bottomless party. Call me crazy, but I don't like looking at women's hoo-hoos. (That word's for you, Shannon!)

After bailing on the movie, we tried to go to Jeni's Ice Cream in Grandview but couldn't find parking and people were lined up outside the door. Instead we went to Denise's Ice Cream in Clintonville. It doesn't get the press Jeni's gets, but it's REALLY good. I had the Sweet Buttered Corn ice cream, which was quite tasty. And best of all, I think it counts as a vegetable! (In some universe somewhere.)

I'm So Bad!

Today, I've been a major rebel...for me, anyway!

I ate a doughnut for breakfast. I went to see the Sex and the City movie. I skipped bellydancing in favor of sushi and gossip. After that, I drove through Sonic and got a calorie-laden Reese's Blast. It's been fun!

I loved, loved, loved the Sex and the City movie. I can't believe how against the TV show I used to be - now I've seen every episode. It reminds me of a more exciting version of my life - particularly the quirky men they've dated. I think I've gone out with some of those guys! In fact, I just took the "Which character are you?" and apparently I'm Carrie. (And no, I didn't cheat on it like I did on the "Which Golden Girl are you?" quiz.)

Obviously, the movie's a little predictable but it was fun, warm and covered a wide range of emotions. I laughed, I cried, I snorted...how can you beat that for entertainment?

Ah - Another Restful Weekend!

For some reason, I was crazy-busy this weekend. It's been tons of fun stuff - but now I feel tired.

This weekend, I had dinner at Cafe Istanbul with friends (a Turkish restaurant - yum!). Their red lentil soup is one of my absolute favorites. I also love their ezme (chopped tomatoes, onions and hot peppers in olive oil.) It's kind of like a salsa for bread!

I Scream, You Scream...

On Saturday, my friends and I kicked off the summer festival season with the Utica Old Fashioned Ice Cream Festival. It was at Ye Olde Mill, where they make Velvet Ice Cream. They had a craft tent where you could buy clothes for your pets. The "designer" told me someone bought a shirt for his rabbit (is that what they're calling it these days?) and another wanted a T-shirt for her goat. Who dresses goats and rabbits? For that matter, who dresses dogs and cats?

My favorite booth was one with clothes for the cement geese you put on porch. There were holiday costumes, sports-themed outfits - even leather for that dominatrix goose in your life. They also had an ice cream eating contest - you were supposed to eat a pint a minute. I'll have to train for next year. Although talk about brain freeze...

I ate a corn dog and the most massive banana split. You could choose three ice cream flavors and three toppings. I had chocolate covered strawberry with strawberry topping, vanilla with hot fudge and cookies & cream with marshmallow topping. Yum and blech!

Indy is Swell

I also saw the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull movie this weekend. Apparently, I'm the only person on earth who liked it. Here's the thing - it's Indiana Jones. Of course the plot is unrealistic. It's just a fun, summer movie with a way-too-old Harrison Ford. There's always some mythical object. Weird stuff happens when you find it. Bad guys chase you and there's a big action-packed scene. It was mindless, cheesy fun - and I didn't look at my watch once (a sign of an enjoyable movie!). People are saying that this is the only unrealistic Indy movie. I'm sorry - he found the Holy Grail, which was guarded by some 800,000 year-old knight. That wasn't exactly plausible. Although I will admit the monkeys were ridiculous...

Cookouts Galore

On Sunday, I went to cookouts and parties. I made a watermelon and feta salad and a trifle with angel food cake, berries and a cool whip/pineapple/vanilla pudding mix. The watermelon salad wasn't very popular, but the trifle was a big hit!

I also played cornhole - and am officially the worst player on earth. I'm a terrible beanbag tosser!
