So I'm having a rebound fling with Netflix...just with the streaming service. I decided to watch every episode of How I Met Your Mother. I stopped watching in 2008 because I was dating a lot of jackasses and the main character, Ted, was being a giant jackass, so it hit a little too close to home. But now that I'm a boring married lady, I find the show to be insanely entertaining.
Simon and I are still doing our vegan thing with minimal cheating. At dinner the other night, Simon said, "It's amazing - the weight is just falling off now that we're vegan. I'm not watching what I eat or exercising or anything." I thought about pouring nacho cheese down his throat.
This morning, he announced: "Guess what! I weighed myself and I weigh XXX lbs. That's the lowest I've weighed in five years and I'm not even trying.!" Again, I thought about force-feeding him Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
While Simon has dropped about 15 lbs in two weeks without even trying, I'm stuck with my measly 2. I realize that it's harder for women..but GRR.
But then, I watched this scene from How I Met Your Mother and Marshall made me feel much better!
Random tales of a klutzy 30-something gal navigating through life's everyday embarrassments. Written for those who've plowed over executive vice presidents in the hallway and spilled coffee on themselves three times in one day!

I Have A Problem
Here's the video that launched a life-long fascination with crappy music. For years I thought he was saying "Beat Tridelphia" (our rival junior high school) instead of "Beachfront Avenue." Yes, I thought this song was tailor-made for our girls' basketball games. and yes, I was in the Talented & Gifted program...

Saturday Morning Cartoons Part 3
Here's Part 3 in my retrospective of Saturday morning cartoons. I was OBSESSED with The Littles when I was a kid. I loved how they used everyday objects as furniture - a thimble was a chair, a toothpick was a walking stick, a button was a dinner plate. I may be mis-remembering the specifics, but you get the idea.
I'd scour the great outdoors and my house for objects 'The Littles' might want to use. (No, I didn't think there actually were Littles - I just liked to come up with my own stuff.) Then I'd spend hours coming up with elaborate stories about what The Littles would do with these objects.
This might be why none of the kids wanted to play with me in elementary school - and why I decided I wanted to be a writer when I grew up. Although I haven't really done anything with that yet, except write boring articles about ATMs. Maybe someday...

Yes, I'm a Political Uber-Geek
I'm not sure how many of you caught Barack Obama's speech on race this morning. I was amazed by his candor and eloquence and was once again reminded why I want this man to be president. We need a leader who can be honest and open about tackling the most difficult issues we face as a country. We tiptoe around race, just as we tiptoe around religion and working class, but until we're willing to take a good look at things, they aren't going to get better.
When I listen to Barack Obama's speech, I feel hopeful again. I want to live in his America, where I can feel proud of my President, where I feel like my country is a world leader, not a laughingstock, and where I feel like part of a larger community committed to doing the right thing.
I don't want to live in McCain's 100-year-war in Iraq. I don't want to be part of Hillary Clinton's self-serving America, where she tears other people down to build herself up. I want to be part of something better.
Take a few minutes to listen to the speech, if you haven't already done so. It's a straightforward delivery for a tough topic, but the words are magical.

Saturday Morning Cartoons Part 2
I've decided that I really enjoy remembering my favorite childhood cartoons on Saturday mornings. It's looking back on a simpler time -- the 80s! It was before computers and technology even existed. In fact, we were practically using the abacus to do math.
Here's one of my old faves - although I'm not sure why. It's actually kind of scary.

Feeling a Bit Like a Porcupine?
Is it just me, or is this ad really disturbing? I just can't figure out who would have even thought this would appeal to women. What do all those animals have to do with the product?
I've never heard a woman complain about feeling a bit lobsterish in her downstairs area. (And trust me, women talk about some gross stuff so I would've heard!) As if it's not embarrassing enough to buy girly projects, now you're going to have pimply pre-pubescent boys wiggling their eyebrows at you while thinking of a blowfish. Ugh.
